Dr. Rickards provides comprehensive forensic neuropsychological evaluation services for legal and administrative proceedings, including Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs), Fitness for Duty evaluations (including for physicians), and evaluations of claimants reporting cognitive or mood-related changes following injury or illness. Board Certified in Clinical Neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) and Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in Maryland (License #5665), Dr. Rickards specializes in the neuropsychological sequelae of acquired brain injury — including mild, moderate, and severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), stroke, and neurodegenerative conditions — as well as capacity-related assessments. His forensic evaluations frequently address questions of injury causation, cognitive and psychological diagnoses, treatment recommendations, and considering of the validity of reported cognitive and emotional symptoms.

Case review
Review of provided medical, personal, or other documentation pertinent background information.
Neuropsychological interview
In-person discussion with the evaluated individual, and may also include collateral information from others familiar with the individual.
Neuropsychological assessment
Includes up to several hours of test administration examining various domains of cognition, aspects of mood and personality, and performance and symptom validity. Measures are scored and integrated with background information, including the individual’s description of their experience, into a written report summarizing results. The assessment cannot be observed by others due to the potential impact on performance.
Deposition and courtroom appearance
Discussion of neuropsychological findings of the case at hand, as well as applying current understanding of typical sequelae and impact of brain injury and neuropathological conditions.
